On page one Olive is very nervous, waiting for a mysterious, romantic visitor. It's not who you think. I had some serious discussions with my harshest critic, my wife, about coloring Olive. I was determined to take her out of that bright red and use feminine pinks and purples. My wife thought the red was too well identified with the character to ignore. I compromised and, among all the dresses she tries on, only one is NOT red -- the one she wears.

Bluto and Ted the Goon attack the spinach fields of Spinachania (formerly Nazilia) to complete Bluto's dastardly plan. Writer Peter David was thorough in his research for the characters in this comic book. Consequently there are a lot of hidden jokes for those who know a little about the Popeye character. On this page, Bluto says, "Is that the sailor?" to which our hero responds with the first words he ever said anywhere, January 17, 1929, in E.C. Segar's Thimble Theatre newspaper strip. "'Ja think I'm a cowboy?"
